IELTS (INTERNATIONAL EXAMS FOR ADMISSION IN FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES)
- What is the IELTS Exam?
The International English Language Test System (IELTS) is a standard English language test, designed so that other foreign speakers can test their ability in English. It is specially designed for candidates who wish to study, work and live in an English-speaking environment.
The IELTS certificate opens the door to international education and employment. This language assessment test is prepared by world-renowned experts in the assessment of the English language in which people communicate easily.
The IELTS exam is recognized worldwide and many international universities follow this test for the registration of their foreign applicants.
- Who Manages IELTS?
IELTS is administered jointly by the Cambridge University ESOL exams (Cambridge ESOL), the British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia. IELTS is considered the highest international test for language assessment.
This IELTS test is accepted in thousands of schools, colleges, universities, businesses, immigration authorities and professional organizations around the world. IELTS is a very effective and natural way to assess communication skills in English.
You can follow an academic or general IELT training. It is a standardized test, with a particular focus on verbal skills. Candidates are trained to listen, speak, read and write during the exam.
- IELTS Test Format
The IELTS exam is divided into four subtests or modules: writing, reading, speaking and listening. Applicants must appear in all four modules.
While all candidates take the same oral comprehension and oral expression tests, they take different reading and writing tests, depending on whether they have chosen the academic module or the general education module.
The duration of the IELTS exam is 2 hours and 45 minutes. Sometimes the IELTS speaking test can be done even a day or two later in some test centers.
On the day of the test, the four sub-tests or modules are followed in the order indicated below:
- Test Pattern For Listening To IELTS
The IELTS hearing test takes approximately 30 minutes. It consists of four sub-parts and is played on cassette, in increasing order of difficulty. Each sub-part can be a dialogue or a monologue.
The hearing test is only played once, and the questions in each sub-part must be answered while listening, although students have time to double-check their answers.
- IELTS Reading Test Pattern
The IELTS reading test lasts 60 minutes. Students must take an academic reading test or a general reading test. The two tests consist of three parts, and in the two tests, the parts are organized in order of increasing difficulty.
- IELTS Writing Test Pattern
The IELTS writing exam also lasts 60 minutes. Applicants may have the option of taking an academic subtest or a general education subtest. Applicants must perform two writing tasks, which depend on different writing styles. There is no choice for any subject matter.
- IELTS Speaking Test Pattern
The IELTS speaking test exam consists of an individual interview with a specially trained and expert examiner.
The interviews are recorded and consist of three different sections:
An introduction and an interview, an individual long turn in which the candidate will have to speak for 1 or 2 minutes on a specific subject, and a thematic bidirectional discussion related to the long individual work. This interview will last approximately 12 to 14 minutes.
The general IELTS score is calculated on a scale of 1 to 9 for each subtest and the general average is considered as the final score. After you finish the exam, the way to study abroad or work in the UK and in EU countries becomes easier.
